The planes in orthodontics plays an important role in orthodontics and the most important plane is “The Frankfort Horizontal plane” aka FHP.It was originally introduced at an anthropological conference in Frankfurt, Germany in 1884. It can be defined as a plane extending from the left Orbitales to both Portion points. This plane is of high impertinence as it was initially used as a craniometric reference plane for classification purposes.
Likewise, we have an important vertical plane i.e. “Facial plane”, it is a line from an anterior point of front-nasal suture (nasion) to most anterior point of mandible (pogonion).
You can find more information about the planes in these notes.
